remember how people used to say, ‘the best way to learn is to ask questions. even if it may sound stupid’.
well today i learnt first hand never to do that.
i am now mending whetever ego and pride i have left in me because my superior decided to use my spm qualifications to put me down.
what i thought would be a simple briefing went spiralling violently downhill because….
i didn’t know caustic soda = sodium hydroxide.
apparently it’s common sense.
then she went on to asking,
“you dapat berapa arh spm?”
“uhh.. 5a..” *ducks head in embarrasment*
“hah?! 5a aje?!! kalau apply public university mesti tak dapat”
i think to myself… ‘tak ingin punnn…’
“you lucky laa your parents dapat support you so you study aje lahh?”
“graduate dari imu ye? no no no.. no good.. macam ini pun tak tauu…”
(LIKE AS THOUGH I’M NOT SMART ENOUGH FOR PHARMACY BUT I’M LUCKY TO HAVE PARENTS THAT PAID MY WAY INTO A LOUSY PRIVATE UNIVERSITY)
“so natrium hydroxide tu ape?”
is this a trick question?… “uhh.. alkali??”
“bukann bukannn.. fikir betul betul.. senang saja..”
“uhh….. …… ….. tau tau.. alkali laa..”
“bukan!! bagi saya satu simple neutralization equation..”
“HCl + NaOH –> NaCl + H2O….??”
“so apa itu HCl dan NaOH??”
“acid and alkali…??”
“YALA ALKALI LAA.. MACAM ITU PUN TAK TAU…”
=.= ……………………… *holds back the urge to send her smashing through the glass window*
i am far from a happy bunny right now.

Yawn.
Hmm, one could wonder if she is also ‘lucky’ that she has certain advantages which allowed her easy entry into a public university.
Regardless, I still recommend you to keep asking questions. Only thing is that perhaps you might want to be a bit selective with who you ask questions to. If no one suitable is available, ask the question to yourself and find the answer out yourself.
Don’t worry too much. Your better learning attitude will put you light years ahead of her to come.

oh yess… SPM is a very VERY important exam to them. I had something similar in Maybank. I think it’s the only closest thing to a level playing field they know.
So if they feel like they’ve beaten you there, it will totally make their day.
And also, people who prey on you with menial things like semantics are normally those who can’t beat you in anything else. So… chill la. For all you know, she probably finds you intimidating. LOL~!
